"My Love Affair With the Brain" Showing

Writer: Fiona ChangFiona Chang

Our event was a success! We watched "My Love Affair With the Brain: The Life and Love of Dr. Marian Diamond," followed by a Q & A session with Dr. Jennifer Yih, a psychologist and neuroscientist at Stanford University.

We started off with a brief introduction introducing 500 Women Scientists, Dr. Jennifer Yih, and Dr. Marian Diamond.

Dr. Jennifer Yih is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Stanford University in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences; Department of Psychology. She mainly studies emotions, with a lot of her research revolving around stress.

Dr. Marian Diamond, of whom the documentary is about, is one of the founders of modern neuroscience. Most of her work was based on experiments with rat brains, but she is also known as one of the first scientists to publish work on Einstein's brain. She discovered that the brain's anatomy changes with development, now known as brain plasticity.

After introductions, we watched the documentary.

And Dr. Yih held an informative Q & A session about neuroscience and psycology.

Thank you to everyone who came. Hopefully everyone had just as much fun as we did, and learned a bit about the brain!
